Simple Prayer Journal Praise

Praising God

Today we will share ideas for preparing a Simple Prayer Journal Praise page.

Do you want to spend one on one time with your Heavenly Father?   Your Simple Prayer Journal will help make focusing on prayer and praying about the things that are important to you, so much easier.

Our goal this month is to create a personalized Simple Prayer Journal that works perfectly for you.  One that you want to pick up and use.  A Prayer Journal that inspires you, reminds you what you want to pray about and is easy to use.

So far we’ve created a Cover page and an Index page.  Designing the Cover page was fun.  Now we are going to start getting into the details.  We’ll be creating some more fun, pretty and important pages.

What does the Bible say about prayer?

Let’s start by looking in God’s Word at Matthew chapter 6.  Here Jesus provides some guidance for how we are to pray, including the Lord’s Prayer in verses 9 – 13.

Matthew 6: 9-13

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Verse 9 makes it very clear that our prayer time should begin with praise.  It’s not hard to understand why.  God is worthy of our praise.

Ephesians 1:6

To the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

Because God loves us, He gave His only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross to redeem us from our sins.  He is preparing a Heavenly home for us.  Indeed, we ought to want to praise God for all He has done for us already and all He continues to do in our lives.

How do we praise God?

Praise is one way that we can worship God.  We want to worship God for who He is.

There are many names of God in the Bible.  Can you think of a few?

Psalm 99:2-3

The Lord is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people.

Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy.

We also want to recognize and praise God for His attributes; those qualities or features that are a characteristic or inherent part of who He is.  Can you name some attributes of God?

How about a fun worksheet to help you think about the names of God and about His attributes?

How to use the worksheet

First of all, think about the names of God that you already know.  Write them beside the corresponding letter of the alphabet (i.e. Almighty goes by the A, Redeemer goes by the R, etc.) on your worksheet.

Now, think about some of the attributes of God and write them beside the corresponding letter of the alphabet on your worksheet (i.e. Holy goes by the H, Kind goes by the K, etc.)

You can do this any way you please.  Here are a couple ideas:

  • Fill out one name/attribute for each letter of the alphabet on the worksheet
  • Print two worksheets. Use one for Names of God and one for His Attributes

If you are like me, you will not fill in a corresponding name/attribute for each letter right away.  That’s fine.  It’s better to add others all year long.

Without a doubt, you will find additional names/attributes to add.  They may represent something that God is showing you in your life as you go through something.  Perhaps they will be mentioned during a Sunday School lesson or a sermon.  Or you may find some as you do your own Bible Study or devotional time.

Just like this one, many of the pages in your Simple Prayer Journal will be ones that you will continue to add to throughout the year.

That’s why this Simple Prayer Journal is such a great personalized tool for your quiet time with the Lord.

Add a Bible Verse Reference

Something to consider for this Praise page is adding a Bible verse reference to the names/attributes that you use.  You may find your pages fill up quickly with names, attributes and Bible verses.  That’s great because they will all remind you of the need to praise God.  You can use the back of the page or just make another page when you need more room to add your thoughts for praising God.

Create Your Own Page

If you don’t want to use the free Printable, you can simply write “Praise” on the top of a sheet of paper and then make a single list of the letters of the alphabet.  Now, simply follow the instructions for how to use the worksheet above to create your own Praise page.

Your Praise page is a great way to start your prayer time.

Now as you begin your prayer time you will have a great resource to review when you are spending time Praising the Lord.

Daniel 2:20

Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his.
